We Won’t Let Them: Fighting for Democracy in the Face of Lawlessness
By Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr.
Right now, we are witnessing one of the most dangerous assaults on our democracy in modern history. Former President Donald Trump—desperate to reclaim power—and his unelected billionaire co-conspirator Elon Musk are working hand-in-glove to undermine the Constitution and the very foundations of our government.
But let me be clear: Democrats are fighting back. And we’re doing it with the full force of the law, the power of Congress, and the strength of the people.
Already, we’ve filed over 100 court challenges against unlawful actions and unconstitutional power grabs. These aren’t just political statements—they are legal battles waged in courtrooms across this nation to stop corruption, abuse, and the blatant disregard for democratic norms. These filings represent our commitment to justice, transparency, and the rule of law.
In Congress, we are using every legislative and oversight tool at our disposal to expose the truth and hold those in power accountable. Investigations are being pushed. Subpoenas are being proposed. Laws are being drafted to protect the people—not the powerful. We will not sit back while our democracy is bought, sold, or silenced.
And right here at home—in New Orleans and across Louisiana—our communities are mobilizing. The people are rising up. From neighborhood associations to student activists, from church congregations to social justice organizations, the grassroots are growing stronger every day. Our communities know what’s at stake, and they are standing up, speaking out, and showing up.
This isn’t just about politics—it’s about preserving the soul of our nation. It’s about making sure our children inherit a democracy that is just, fair, and free from the grip of authoritarianism.
We’ve been through hard times before—and we’ve come out stronger. But strength requires action. And we are taking that action now, with boldness and urgency.
To the people of New Orleans and beyond: know that your voices matter. Your votes matter. Your fight matters. Together, we will meet this moment—and we will win.
